Cuban Style Sloppy Joes

If you haven't had a Sloppy Joe recently, you must make this old favorite with its slightly sweet but tangy tomato sauce.

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground beef chuck
1 cup onion, chopped
2 tablespoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes
3/4 cup canned beef broth
1/4 cup raisins
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies

4 Kaiser or hamburger rolls, split and toasted under the broiler
2 cups thinly sliced romaine lettuce

Heat oil in a large skillet. Add meat and onions. Cook until beef is brown breaking up with a fork as it cooks. Pour off any excess fat. Return to heat and mix in chili powder and cinnamon. Add tomatoes with their juice and remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered, about 10 minutes, until liquids thicken. Season with salt and pepper if desired.

To serve: Place toasted rolls cut side up on plates. Divide meat mixture between all rolls. Top with sliced romaine.
