Baked Apples with Caramel Crunch

A special breakfast! Honey baked apples, topped with crunchy, caramelized raisin bran, are delicious and nutritious.


3 large apples, cored and cut in halves

6 teaspoons plus 3 Tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY

2/3 cup water

2 Tablespoons butter

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon groud cinnamon

1/3 cup walnuts, chopped

1 cup raisin bran flakes

How Honey is Made

To make honey, bees drop the collected nectar into the honeycomb and then evaporate it by fanning their wings.


Preheat oven to 400°.
Cover the bottom of a shallow baking dish with about 2/3 cup water. Arrange apple halves in baking dish. Spread each half with 1 teaspoon honey. Cover and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and set aside. Reduce oven temperature to 350°.
In a small saucepan, combine butter, remaining 3 tablespoons honey, salt and cinnamon. Blend well. Cook over low heat until mixture bubbles. Add nuts and cereal flakes. Mix lightly until just coated.
Spread cereal mixture over tops of apples. Return to oven and bake uncovered 20 minutes longer or until apples are tender.
For another special treat, sprinkle the cereal topping over ice-cream or yogurt.
