Barbecue Beans

An American classic, what barbecue would be complete without beans? Try this recipe and you will never want barbecue beans from a can again.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 cups chopped onion

1 red bell pepper, coarsely chopped

1 yellow bell pepper, coarsely chopped

1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes

1 (15 ounce) can red kidney beans, rinsed and drained

1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained

1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce

1/4 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY

1/2 cup mesquite barbecue sauce

2 tablespoons instant coffee granules

1/2 tablespoon hot pepper sauce

1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped

1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped

1/3 cup fresh basil, chopped

No need to refrigerate it. It can be stored unopened, indefinitely, at room temperature in a dry cupboard.

Directions

In a large saucepan heat oil. Add onions and chopped peppers. Saute about 10 minutes, until tender. Add remaining ingredients except basil. Simmer 30 minutes until mixture thickens. Stir in basil and salt and pepper to taste.
Serves: 4-6
